3 Warning Signs That Show You Need to Replace Your Roof

Posted on

A roof is an important part of your home, thus you should take care of it. You should properly maintain it to ensure its durability. In order to maintain the warmth and coziness of your home, a solid roof with no issues is essential. If your roof has problems, it only needs to be repaired to retain its good condition. However, some issues are beyond repair and you will need to replace the entire roof. Here are some of the signs you should look out for that indicate that you need a roof replacement.

Curling or Missing Shingles

During your regular maintenance of the roof, you should inspect the shingles. Check out if the shingles are curling. There are two ways in which shingles curl: the edges of the shingles could curl upwards or the edges could be flat but the middle part of the shingles starts to rise up. If you notice these signs, it is a clear indication that the shingle has no ability to perform its job. At this point, the shingles are beyond repair.

However, if it is only one or two shingles that are curling, then you should replace these particular shingles. If nearly all the shingles on your roof that are curling, this is a clear indication that you should replace your roof. You may also notice that there are shingles that are missing. This will be reflected on the roof below the shingles which will be damaged by water leaks. Therefore, you should replace your roof immediately before more damage happens.

Presence of Granules

Granules on the roof shingles reflect rays from the sun and they offer your roof the fire resistant property. With time, heat and other weather elements will lead to granule loss. However, too much loss of the granules will lead to roof failure. This is because granules offer a protective layer to the shingles.  If you decide to clean your gutters after a very long time and notice the presence of too many granules, it is something you should worry about. You should consider replacing your roof.

Light Through Roof Boards

During the day if you notice that light passes through the roof boards it is something you should worry about. If light passes through, it could also mean that water also leaks in. Therefore, you should check your boards for any signs of moisture and find out if they are still strong. If the boards are weak your roof will eventually be weak too leading to serious damage. Therefore, you should consider getting a new roof.
